Action Grid Controls
Table of Contents
The functionality for viewing your data (and for changing how it is displayed) is invoked using action grid controls, most of which can be invoked using buttons on the action grid's Tab Bar. Information about the contents of the currently displayed action grid is provided in the Information Bar at the bottom of the page.
These controls perform a variety of tasks, including navigation, data selection, filtering, sorting, analysis, and job commands. For general information about action grids and the data that can be retrieved from the database, refer the overview topic, Action Grids.
Note: Key enhancements to ViewPoint Logistics have resulted in a new menu format as well as the consolidation, reorganization, and/or renaming of some functionality. For documentation relating to features that existed in versions prior to VL 13.010, see Legacy VL.
Tab Bar
The tab bar organizes all of the action grid control elements into groups based on their functionality. Click on each tab title to invoke a different list of controls horizontally below the tab bar: Preferences, Actions, Specials, Commands, and Panels. The ribbon feature allows you to use your mouse wheel to quickly scroll back and forth through all of the available control elements (without clicking on the tabs).
Preferences
Functionality for setting and applying operator "presets" to the current action grid. For more information, see Preferences.
Panels
Buttons for jumping to groups of columns across the action grid. For more information, see Panels.
Actions
Action Grid controls for selecting and changing how records are displayed on the grid. For more information, see Actions.
Commands
Data-specific commands that may be invoked based on records selected from the current action grid. For more information, see Commands.
Specials
Miscellaneous options for selecting, arranging, and analyzing collections of records. For more information, see Specials .
Spreadsheet
Options for exporting selected records into a spreadsheet (Excel) file from the current action grid onto your local machine. For more information, see Spreadsheet.
XML
Options for exporting selected records and their data elements to an XML file for business-to-business communication. For more information, see XML.
Information Bar
All action grids include an Information Bar in the bottom margin where you can see various information about the data in the currently loaded grid.
The Information Bar also includes functionality to undo settings, refresh the data, and to navigate back from drill-down levels in the action grid.
More
Exits the current level of a drill-down (if activated). The Back All (double arrow) and the Back (single arrow) buttons are activated (turn red) whenever the current action grid is the result of a drill-down invoked by hyperlinked data elements. If activated, you can use the Back button to exit one level of grid at a time. Use the Back All button to navigate out of all levels and return to the initial action grid.
For more information, see Hyperlinks.
The Undo button on the Information Bar invokes the Current Settings table in order to reverse the effects of a selected Filter or Sort sequence. For more information, see Settings Table.
Invokes help options that are specific to the currently-displayed action grid. The button label indicates the name of the associated action grid; e.g., Outbounds WIP, Product Balances, Unit Activity, etc.
Automatically populates an action grid with "refreshed" data from the source database (if it conforms to current filter/sort/panel settings). That is, if any records were added or updated, then the action grid will automatically reflect the newly generated changes.
The button is immediately followed by a timer which indicates the length of time since the last retrieve from the database. The timer starts from zero after the initial load of the action grid. It will then be reset to zero after each
or Auto-Refresh cycle.
…
Sets auto refresh to on or off for all action grids in the current HighView.
Click to invoke the Auto Refresh Timer, which allows you to change the data refresh rate (minimum 30 sec).
The time field will set the refresh rate for all action grids in the HighView (that use auto refresh). Once the time field is activated, the button switches to . To deactivate auto refresh for an action grid, simply click . This also switches the button back to
.
The refresh timer resets to zero after each or Auto-Refresh cycle.
Indicates both the number of records/rows that are currently displayed as well as the total number retrieved from the database. The first value (displayed) will change as filtering and other settings are applied to the grid. The second value (retrieved) changes if any data has been added/removed since the last refresh.
Indicates how long it took to load the data into the grid after each or Auto-Refresh operation..
