Business Benefits

Storage Types identify, as indicted by the name, the type of storage a location offers (Bulk, Frozen, Rack, Silo, Pick Line, etc.).

A Storage Type Preference Profile is a list of Storage Types that is in preferential order or sequence in which they will be assigned or used by the Active Putaway functionality. Each Client/Product that requires the "Verified Passive Putaway" or "Active Putaway" functionality will be assigned a Storage Type Preference Profile and the system will attempt to select a location using the most preferred storage type available.

Example:

Storage Type
Sequence
01
02
Preference = Food
Storage Type
Rack
Bulk

In the above example if a food product is being received then the system will attempt to find an available "rack" putaway location. If no rack locations are available then it will look for an available "bulk" location.

Note: Storage Type is not the only consideration for "best" location. Other preferences include separation of products, popularity, and storage zone.

Note: Storage Type "P" must be defined for Pick-Line usage. Pick Line locations are defined in program SL.90 [Locations] and products are assigned to Pick Line locations in program SL.95 [Pick-Line Products].

Note: For related documentation and workflows, see SL - Stock Locator.

Usage

Use this program to identify storage types and preference profiles.

At least one storage type must be created. Storage Type Preference Profiles need to be defined if Verified Passive Putaway (VPP) or Active Putaway (AP) functionality will be used.

Preconditions

Determine the Storage Types in your operation. If VPP or AP is required then determine which storage types may be used per Client/Product and arrange them in preferential sequence.

Typically the following programs are run before Storage Type and Profiles are defined:

WP.11 [Warehouses]
SL.87 [Zones]

Subsequent Actions

Storage Types are attached to a location in program SL.90 [Locations].

Storage Type Preference Profiles are attached to a Client/Product in program SL.88 [Client/Product Profiles-Assign].
