Business Benefits

Popularity Codes are used to identify fast or slow moving products (i.e., product "turn over" rate). If a product moves "Fast" it is best to store it close to the Shipping Area so that less travel is involved in storing and picking it. As a result products and storage locations have popularity codes.

A Popularity Preference Profile is a list of Popularity Codes. It is sequenced in preferential order or sequence in which they will be used.

Example Product: Bread

Sequence Popularity
01 Fast
02 Medium
03 Slow

In the above example assume that "Bread" turns over very quickly. When it is received the system will attempt to select a putaway location that has a "Fast" Popularity Code; i.e., is typically near the Shipping/Dock area. If no such locations are
available it will attempt to find an available location with a "Medium" Popularity Code, etc.

Note: Popularity is not the only consideration for "best" location. Other preferences include separation of products, storage type, and zone.

Note: For related documentation and workflows, see SL - Stock Locator.

Usage

Use this program to create popularity codes and preference profiles.

At least one popularity code must be created. Popularity Preference Profiles need to be defined if Verified Passive Putaway (VPP) or Active Putaway (AP) functionality will be used.

Preconditions

Determine the Popularity Codes neccessary for your operation. If VPP or AP is required then determine which popularity codes are required for each Client/Product and arrange them in preferential sequence.

Typically the following programs are run before Popularity Codes and Preference Profiles are defined.

WP.11 [Warehouses]
SL.87 [Zones]
SL.78 [Storage Types / Type Profiles]
SL.81 [Storage Dimensions]

Subsequent Actions

Popularity Codes are attached to a Location in program SL.90 [Locations].

Popularity Preference Profiles are attached to a Client Product in program SL.88 [Client/Product Profiles-Assign].
