Business Benefits
This option reduces the time required to generate multiple "Visual" locations that differ from their related "Internal" locations. See the "Usage" section on how this is accomplished.
Note: For related documentation and workflows, see SL - Stock Locator.
Usage
A "Visual" location (e.g., AA-1-01 = Row "AA", Tier "1" and Bin "01) is the code associated with a physical location in the warehouse and which holds specific stock after it is received into inventory, moved, counted, adjusted, etc.
An "Internal" location is a system-required code associated with a physical location code that is NEVER seen by users but linked to the visual location code to provide (amongst other things) verified and active put-away functionality to ensure stock is placed in a valid location.
An Internal location always has the following format AASCCCTT where:
AA
S
CCC
TT= Aisle
= Side
= Column
= Tier
For example, the location code AA-00101 represents the following:
Aisle: AA
Side: "-" (to indicate no side)
Column: 001
Tier: 01
If the Visual location code does NOT match the format of the Internal location code then it will be necessary to use this option to "map" the Internal location code to the required Visual location code.
For example, with the following mismatch ...
Internal Location: AA-00101
Visual location: AA-1-01 (Aisle AA, Tier 1, Bin 01)
... the following Mapping would need to be implemented:
Visual In Relation to Internal Code Aisle Start at position 1, length of 2 Filler Start at position 3, length of 1 Tier Start at position 8, length of 1 Filler Start at position 3, length of 1 Bin Start at position 5, length of 2
Preconditions
Prior to using this option determine the Mapping requirements from the Internal to the Visual location.
Optionally you may also create a list of valid Tiers (for the Internal location code) in the following job option SL.84 [Tier Characteristics].
Subsequent Actions
Generate a series of locations, with the Mapping rules you just defined, by using the following option SL.90 [Locations].
