Business Benefits
In order to use the Stock Locator (and WMS) effectively, it is essential that you identify all the Storage Locations in your Warehouse(s). Once this is done, you can
maximize the use of the computer in moving stock in and out.
This program allows you define your Warehouse Locations to the computer, so that it has a "picture" of your physical environment.
Note: For related documentation and workflows, see SL - Stock Locator.
Internal Location Code
Component Aisle Side Column Tier |
Type Alphanumeric Alphanumeric Numeric Numeric |
Max. Length 2 1 3 2 |
For example, 01L00101 where:
Aisle 01
Side L
Columns 001
Tier 01
The above location meets the internal representation requirements necessary to make use of the various putaway functionality (i.e., passive, verified passive, and active).
Visual Location Code
A different "Visual" location may be attached to the internal location. This is the location that is viewed by all users during receiving, picking, moves, etc. It need not follow the internal
location format rules.
Fior example, A01A where:
Row A
Bay 01
Level A
Location Characteristics and Putaway Modes
The attachment of location characteristics (i.e., storage zone, type, popularity, and separation) allows Active Putaway (AP) functionality to suggest the "best" putaway location by matching a product's location requirements to an appropriate location. The Verified Passive Putaway (VPP) compares the product's location requirements to the selected location and if it is not a match prompts the user to enter a password to verify the location used.
Usage
Use this job to create Location codes for the Stock Locator Master file.
