Functionality in ViewPoint Logistics for mapping Action Grid data for XML integration with external databases and applications.

Overview

Extensible Markup Language (XML) provides an available, affordable, and easily adaptable technology for exchanging data between trading partners, databases and applications. For complete details on the functionality in VL for XML Data Integration, see What is XML-Based Data Integration?

Workflows

Mapping the Data

All VL to XML integration begins with data mapping. Once the data to be exchanged with VL has been identified, then the format for that data needs to mapped. The XML Data Mapper in ViewPoint Logistics is used to define that map. For complete instructions on this process, see XML Data Mapper.

Exporting to XML

Creating an XML file for export from VL requires opening an action grid, selecting records (rows), and assigning the appropriate data map. Once created, each file will appear in the XML Files action grid where it can be selected for transmission. For complete instructions on this process, see Export XML.

Transmitting XML Files

Once the VL data has been exported to XML, the resulting XML Files may be selected and merged into a single Transmit file to be forwarded to an external destination. At this point, the Transmit file incorporates any authentication that has been configured for use according to the destination's security rules. For complete instructions on this process, see Transmit XML.

Combining XML Files

Like in the Transmit process, XML Files can also be merged into a single Combined file. This step allows the XML files to be consolidated to be transmitted at a later time. For complete instructions on this process, see Combine XML.

XML Control HighView

This HighView provides the action grids for viewing, consolidating, transmitting, and removing any XML files that have been exported from VL data. For complete details, see XML Control.

Note that the purpose of each XML Control action grid is also explained within the context of the Export XML, Transmit XML, and Combine XML processes.
