Business Benefits

There may be occasions when you want to see all "canned peas" for a specific Customer who has a variety of Products that qualify as "canned peas". It would be helpful if the computer could find all these similar products based on a single code and/or to print reports in which these related Products are grouped together. This program allows you to achieve this result by setting up Generic codes that can be assigned to related Products.

Note: For related documentation and workflows, see CR - Client Related.

Usage

Use this job to maintain a set of Generic Classification codes and their descriptions. These codes will be used when creating Products in Field 12 (Generic Code) of program CR.62 [Client's Inventory Products].

Generic Classification codes are used by the display programs to show Products with the same generic meaning.

e.g., If you want to see all "canned peas" for the chosen Client, and the Generic code for "canned peas" is "Peas", the entry of the code "Peas" will display all Products with "Peas" in Field 12 of program CR.62.

They are also used to sequence reports generically. For example, the following may print in Generic code sequence:
IC.02 [Inventory Product List],
IC.03 [Activity Reports - On Request],
IC.04 [Activity Reports - Period-End],
IC.05 [Client / Product Inquiry],
IC.07 [Product / Lot Stock Balances].
IP.31 [Recurring Storage - Generate]

Preconditions

Determine the nature of your classifications, so that you can decide how many categories you need.

Subsequent Actions

Various reports in the Inventory Control (IC) system may be sorted by the Generic code, either alone or in combination with (an)other code(s).
