Creating/Modifying Operators

To access options for creating, modifying and deleting operators in ViewPoint Logistics, select VL Security HighView in the System Administration and Security system menu:

Use the [insert icon] action grid to maintain operator profiles and assign operators to a group. The main grid displays all currently-defined operator codes and their settings.

More

While both internal and external (MyLogistics) operators are listed here, only the internal operators may be created or modified from this HighView.

Note: For information on setting up MyLogistics operator accounts, see MyLogistics Account Settings .

Instructions for creating or modifying internal operator profiles are provided in the sections that follow. Operator profiles that are set up in ViewPoint Logistics will also be valid for accessing the VL Core Application Platform (e-Z Ware).

Operator Commands/Options

Click Commands on the action grid Tab Bar for options to create or maintain operator settings and assign groups:

Assigns operators to groups. To change multiple operators, hold down the Ctrl key while highlighting and selecting the rows in the grid. Note: Selected operators may only be assigned to one group. This button invokes a dialog that prompts you to choose a group. Click to save your changes.

Opens a settings panel for creating new operators and to modifying the name, associated group code, and other details in an operator profile.

Operator Settings Panel

The feature opens a settings panel for creating a new operator and for modifying existing operators .

For an overview of the fields on this settings panel, see RD.06 - Operator Settings.

For instructions on how to use this settings panel, refer to the sections below.

Creating a New Operator

Creating a New Operator: Open the Commands tab, then click without selecting a record in the action grid. This opens an empty RD.06 panel:

For added security, this job will display a prompt for you to enter your VL Administrator password before allowing certain changes.

Complete the following steps to create a new operator profile. Remember to press ENTER or TAB to accept an entry before moving your mouse to another field.

  1. Enter the new operator code in the Operator ID field. Operator codes are described in the Operator Setup and Security overview.
  2. Enter the user's name in the Name field.
  3. To assign an operator to a group, enter a group code in the Group field, or click the button to select from a list of groups. An operator group must exist before an operator can be assigned to it. The only exception is if you enter a group code that is identical to the operator code; e.g., operator "JOHDOE" can create the group "JOHDOE". In this case, the field will automatically create a new single-operator group with that name.
  4. Fill out the remaining fields as required. These options are explained in more detail in the section Modifying Existing Operators (below).

  5. Click to submit changes to the current operator profile.
  6. For new operators, you will be prompted to create a new password to complete the process. If the password is accepted, the new operator code will be submitted and the Operator ID field will be show blank. Operators have the option to change their passwords directly from the ViewPoint Logistics log-in page.
  7. Repeat steps 1 through 6 to create more operator profiles. When you are finished, click to close the panel. The new operator codes will appear in the action grid.

Note: A group must be listed in the action grid before an operator can be assigned to it. For more information on the association between operators and operator groups, see ViewPoint Logistics Security.

Modifying Existing Operators

Modifying an Existing Profile: Highlight and select a record in the action grid, then click . This opens RD.06 showing the operator profile associated with the selected Operator ID:

For added security, this job will display a prompt for you to enter your VL Administrator password before allowing certain changes.

This allows you to change or delete the profile of an existing operator. Details on specific fields are provided under RD06 - Operator Settings. Remember to press ENTER or TAB to accept an entry before moving your mouse to another field. After making modifications to the current operator profile, click to submit the changes.

Changing an Operator Password

When creating a new operator profile, you will be prompted to set a new Password to complete the process. Create the new password based on VL Password Rules. From this point on, each operator will have the option to change their own password directly from the ViewPoint Logistics log-in page.

The system administrator can also reset the password via . Enter CH in the Command Code field. This launches the following prompt to enter (and then confirm) the new password:

Note that you will receive the message "Failed to update password" if the correct Password Rules have not been met.
