Business Benefits

An extension digit is used to increase the capacity of a Serial Reference within the Serial Shipping Container Code (SSCC). Previously the Uniform Code Council (UCC) used the first digit within the SSCC as a packaging type; e.g., 0 = Case, 1 = Pallet, 2 = Container).

Effective January 1, 2001 the extension digit has no defined logic.

Usage

Determine the number of extension digits required for your operation. A minimum of one extension digit must be defined to use MH10 labels.

Preconditions

Prior to defining MH10 Extension digits obtain your UCC/EAN prefix number from the Uniform Code Council (UCC) and record it in the following WP.99 [System Profile - 1] - Field # 29 - UCC/EAN Prefix.

Subsequent Actions
