Business Benefits

Part of the order picking process is to validate that the correct stock has been selected for shipment. The moment that stock is validated is also the optimal time to apply required shipping labels, as opposed to some time after the stock is staged, in order to:

  • Reduce stock handling costs/time
  • Reduce mislabeling of stock.

This option allows you to generate labels that may then be printed in order line, product, or location sequence and attached during order picking.

Note: For related documentation and workflows, see LI - Label System.

Usage

Use this option for orders that require labels that are printed from the Third Party product "Label View" (which may also contain barcoded data values) and do NOT require Serialized Shipping Container Codes (i.e., also known as SSCC-18 labels for each shipped Pallet). Typically, each piece (e.g., case) or pallet requires a separate shipping label that contains stock details (product, lot, etc.) and the shipment destination. Since the space on the shipping label is limited the pallet almost always contains a single product.

If multiple products reside on a pallet then the following alternate option should be considered:

LI.84 [MH10 - Client/Customer Setup]

Preconditions

Indicate which Clients require Shipping Labels in the Job CR.18 [Client Arrangements] and specify the following field with the indicated values:

Field # 40 = "O" = Print Labels in program OE.07 [Print Shipping Labels]
Field # 40.1 = "LV" = Label View Command Files

The Shipping label should also be designed/created in Label-View (see Field # 2 in LI.89).

Subsequent Actions

The following steps are performed to generate Shipping Labels that may then be applied to the appropriate stock during the picking of an order.

OE.01 [Enter Orders (Shipping)]
OE.03 [Print Shipping Documents]
OE.07 [Print Shipping Labels]

Note: The last option will create a file, containing the order information, and pass it to Label-View. Label-View will then print the shipping labels required by the order.
