SL applications are used in the Warehouse Management System to define and manage the locations of stock using various formats.

Creation. Locations may be created in one of the following three manners:

  • Individually (i.e., one at a time)
  • Generation of Multiple Locations from a Template
  • Mapping of Visual Locations from Internal Locations (see Formats).

Formats. The Default Location Format (known as the Internal Location) is as follows: AASCCCTT

A = Aisle Code (Alphanumeric - 2 characters)

S = Side Code (Alphanumeric - 1 character)

C = Column Number (Numeric - 3 digits)

T = Tier Code (Alphanumeric - 2 characters)

It is also possible to create a Unique Location Format (known as the Visual Location) that differs from the Internal Location format. This format may be up to eight (8) characters in length.

Put Away Modes. Stock may be received/moved/adjusted into Locations with one (or more) of the following modes

  • Passive (Warehouse staff decide where to place stock),
  • Verified Passive (a.k.a. VPP - System warns if an Invalid location (based on rules) is selected) and
  • Active (a.k.a. AP - System recommends location. Requires Radio Frequency and Space Management)

Space Management. This enables the tracking of available and used space.

Space management processes may be used in a “standalone” fashion (VPP and AP are not active) but is mandatory with AP.
