Sort Indicator Box Ascending/Descending Order Selecting Multiple Columns Resetting a Sort Saving to a View

Change the sort order of action grid data by clicking on selected column headings. This will immediately sort all rows based on the contents of the selected column. Select multiple columns by clicking on the Sort Indicator Box. Save the changes to MyViews to be recalled instantly whenever you need to re-apply them.

For most action grids, the BASE sort order is set to the contents of the primary data element, usually the blue column. However, you can sort the action grid based on the contents of any column. There are several ways to sort the data loaded into an action grid:

  • by the values in a single column
  • by values in 2 or more columns
  • in ascending order (values 0 to 9, A to Z)
  • and/or descending order (values: Z to A, 9 to 0)
  • over multiple panels.

Change the sort order instantly by selecting any column heading. Multiple columns may be selected and sorted via the Sort Indicator Box (explained below). To view the current sort(s) in the Settings Table, open the Preferences tab, then click . Sorts can also be recorded (along with Query, Filter, and Column settings) to be invoked instantly via MyViews. See Saving to a View, below.

Sort Indicator Box

The sort indicator box to the right of a column heading identifies which column(s) are currently being used to sort the grid. It serves as a toggle for changing the (ascending/descending) sort order. It also provides the functionality for adding subsequent columns to a multi-column sort.

A number 1 in the sort indicator box identifies the first column being used to sort the grid. Multi-column sorts would be ordered using subsequent numbers 2, 3, 4, etc.

Ascending/Descending Order

The sort sequence defaults to ascending order when you click on a column heading. The small triangle in the sort indicator box indicates the direction of the sort; i.e., an "up" triangle represents ascending order and a "down" triangle represents descending order. Click on the sort indicator box to toggle the sort sequence between ascending and descending order.

Selecting Multiple Columns

Action grids can also be sorted based on several columns; e.g., first by state, then by city, warehouse number, receipt date, etc. Note that multi-column sort selection is also used for other purposes in ViewPoint Logistics, particularly to select columns for the Clipboard, Flash Filter, Crunch, and Spreadsheet functionality.

Setting up a multi-column sort sequence is very simple. Click on the column heading to select the initial column, then click on the sort indicator box for each of the other columns to be used in the sort. Once they are selected, each of the columns in a multi-column sort may be toggled between ascending and descending order via the sort indicator box.

Remember: Pick the initial column by clicking on the Column Heading. Pick subsequent columns by clicking on the Sort Indicator Box.

Resetting a Sort

To re-initialize the previous sort sequence (including multi-column sorts) simply click on any column heading. This will sort all the rows based on the currently-selected column. For example, to reset the grid to the default sort sequence, simply click on the blue column heading.

Saving to a View

To save the current sort settings for future use, open the Preferences tab, select , then click the button. The View created will include any Query, Filter, and Column settings used to define the currently-displayed action grid. See MyViews for more information.
